Sacconi Medals Saved

Brompton’s is delighted and relieved to announce the acquisition of the medals given to Fernando Simon Sacconi. These important and historical solid gold and silver medals were almost melted down for the value of the precious metal – luckily the owner decided to contact Brompton’s before he went ahead with this option.
PLEASE DO NOT MELT DOWN – was the urgent email sent off after seeing the images of the beautiful medals.

There are nine solid gold medals in the collection, including one given to Sacconi by his pupils; Segal, Esposti, Zambelli and Bissolotti, engraved with their names. Another is the medal he received from the city of Cremona after they had awarded him the highest honour they could bestow, that of honorary citizen. This unique and personal collection also includes three medals from the bicentenary of the death of Stradivari; a gold, silver and bronze, Sacconi’s bronze war medals from his WW1 service and his Omega Seamaster wristwatch.

A plan is being hatched to show these medals in Cremona at some point.
