Selling through Brompton’s has proved for many to be the swiftest and most effective way of achieving the very best price for their instrument.
Initially one of our experienced experts will offer a complimentary appraisal of your instrument or bow.
With our traditional valuation days postponed for the time being, our specialists are delighted to offer complimentary live video valuations.
Once an attribution has been established, an auction estimate will be given based on our knowledge of the current international market. We will advise a high and low estimate – for example “A Fine Italian Violin by Giuseppe Rocca” estimate £150,000 – £200,000’. This is the bracket within which we expect the final price to fall – though the high estimates are often exceeded.
The reserve price is the seller’s “safety net” and is usually a figure (not published in the catalogue) just below the low estimate. This sets the minimum figure below which the instrument will not be sold.
Both parties sign a consignment agreement, in which is clearly set out the description of the instrument, the estimate, reserve and sale date. From the moment of signing the instrument is fully covered by Brompton’s global insurance (Lloyds of London).
After cataloguing and photography your instrument is ready for inclusion in one of our world famous sales.
After a successful sale, payment is made thirty five days after the auction date by wire transfer or by cheque (depending on the seller’s requirements), less Brompton’s fees.
Brompton’s offer a private treaty sale for clients who wish their instruments to be sold out of the public eye. Brompton’s has a large international client base and has successfully found private buyers for some of the worlds finest instruments.
In some circumstances Brompton’s are prepared to buy an instrument outright.
